A big Thank you

To everyone who responded to my Skipping Christmas Rant.

Everyone had great ideas and some of them will be implemented this year.

I feel much better (less Grinch like) knowing that most people feel the same way.

It just seems that Christmas lost the "joyous" feeling.

I really do feel less stressed already about it.

I have most of my family members on board with me, limiting the gifts to just the kids in the family.
As my Mom put it, "if I want something, I will buy it for myself, if I can't afford it, neither can anyone else". That is how I feel too.
We are going to get back to the basics of time well spent with each other.

I have few ideas of some small, meaningful gifts that girls can handmake for their grandparents and then I just need to shop for my girls and my niece and nefews.

It will be a much brighter year around here with me not running around like a chicken with my head cut off. ;)

We can focus on some charity too....

I am acutally looking forward to Christmas this year and I think it will just be splendid.
What a difference a few days make.

  3. I'm almost done. Each grandkid gets jammies or a robe, then a gift card.

Now for my kids and their spouses, I'm still weighing the usefullness of several Billy Mays gifts.

I also have six birthdays between now and then...but I'm on top of it and feeling good.

  5. I'm sorry I wasnt here for the skipping Christmas rant, but it sounds like perhaps you are a lot like my wife, a bit of an overdoer? She has a long list of gifts that has to be bought for every single family member every single year, plus all the visiting and everything that goes with it. I swear, sometimes I wonder how she survives a holiday, let alone enjoys it.

  6. I know of a family that gives the funds they would use for each other (like you said, ppl that have what they need and would buy what they wanted) and each year they pick a family in need and give to them. Usually not a being Santa kinda deal, but maybe even more like a family that they've lost a job or had an illness etc. It seems like somebody always knows somebody who knows... and they always come up with a family.

  10. Isn't it amazing how many of us are in agreement?!

It's just that ADVERTISEMENT holds such sway over people.... we tend to think "Well, everyone is out buying-buying-buying, so I have to, too!"

    But really, we DON'T! :-)

  11. I am with you. Christmas has lost the fun that it had when I was a child and now is filled with stress. I am not sure what I am doing this year but I am going for the less stressed holiday and more fun :)

I say just do your best and love one another.
Look what happened to the Grinch when he decided to be nice and not so stressed out. ♥

  13. I think you are on the right track for sure.
I know that's the way I'm leaning. It's not worth the hassle to get stressed and overwhelmed because by the time you turn around to enjoy it.... it's over.
    Not this year.
    :-))
