To everyone who responded to my Skipping Christmas Rant.
Everyone had great ideas and some of them will be implemented this year.
I feel much better (less Grinch like) knowing that most people feel the same way.
It just seems that Christmas lost the "joyous" feeling.
I really do feel less stressed already about it.
I have most of my family members on board with me, limiting the gifts to just the kids in the family.
As my Mom put it, "if I want something, I will buy it for myself, if I can't afford it, neither can anyone else". That is how I feel too.
We are going to get back to the basics of time well spent with each other.
I have few ideas of some small, meaningful gifts that girls can handmake for their grandparents and then I just need to shop for my girls and my niece and nefews.
It will be a much brighter year around here with me not running around like a chicken with my head cut off. ;)
We can focus on some charity too....
I am acutally looking forward to Christmas this year and I think it will just be splendid.
What a difference a few days make.

I love you're thinking! I feel the same way. i just wish that I could get others around me to follow suit...
ReplyDeleteOh, I am SO happy you are feeling better about Christmas! I hate for anyone to be stressed out by this WONDERFUL holiday! I can't wait to hear about your Christmas escapades. I know you will have some hum dingers!
ReplyDeleteI'm almost done. Each grandkid gets jammies or a robe, then a gift card.
ReplyDeleteNow for my kids and their spouses, I'm still weighing the usefullness of several Billy Mays gifts.
I also have six birthdays between now and then...but I'm on top of it and feeling good.
(( hugs )) and so happy to hear this... it's inspirational and contagious, isn't it? Finding joy in rediscovering the true meaning of the holidays. I know your fambly will have a splendid time, specially seeing you all rested! Well... as much as anyone can be during the crazy xmas days LOL!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry I wasnt here for the skipping Christmas rant, but it sounds like perhaps you are a lot like my wife, a bit of an overdoer? She has a long list of gifts that has to be bought for every single family member every single year, plus all the visiting and everything that goes with it. I swear, sometimes I wonder how she survives a holiday, let alone enjoys it.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds great.
ReplyDeleteI know of a family that gives the funds they would use for each other (like you said, ppl that have what they need and would buy what they wanted) and each year they pick a family in need and give to them. Usually not a being Santa kinda deal, but maybe even more like a family that they've lost a job or had an illness etc. It seems like somebody always knows somebody who knows... and they always come up with a family.
ReplyDeleteJust enjoy it...I put so much pressure on myself..I have to be creative with my Christmas card..my letter...my tree...my food...I am going to try to chill and just enjoy..even if my cookies are store bought:)!
ReplyDelete-sandy toes
"once you have a kid, presents go to them..." was a rule I protested for awhile from my mom and aunts cuz then, hello?! I don't get one?! stupid rule.
ReplyDeleteUntil I realized wait... I don't have to BUY as many??
priceless.
I promise I will try to enjoy the season this year! Keep me on the right track, k?
ReplyDeleteIsn't it amazing how many of us are in agreement?!
ReplyDeleteIt's just that ADVERTISEMENT holds such sway over people.... we tend to think "Well, everyone is out buying-buying-buying, so I have to, too!"
But really, we DON'T! :-)
I am with you. Christmas has lost the fun that it had when I was a child and now is filled with stress. I am not sure what I am doing this year but I am going for the less stressed holiday and more fun :)
ReplyDeleteTis the season to be Jolly!
ReplyDeleteI say just do your best and love one another.
Look what happened to the Grinch when he decided to be nice and not so stressed out. ♥
I think you are on the right track for sure.
ReplyDeleteI know that's the way I'm leaning. It's not worth the hassle to get stressed and overwhelmed because by the time you turn around to enjoy it.... it's over.
Not this year.
:-))
