The party is over....

It was one of the best that we have had...everyone seemed to be in a festive mood....even in spite of the worst economy we have ever experienced.

I always get a little "Sybil" just before my guests arrive....I may have actually scared my family members who were trying their best to help me in the kitchen....I sounded a bit like this:

"Oh my gosh, I forgot to make the salad, where are the crackers, go get the silverware out, open up the Sterno, NO, don't light the Sterno until I have the water in the chaffing dishes, run this stuff to the compost, why is the chocolate not melting, Light the candles, get the ice in the ice bucket....."

Yeah, I pretty much just start flipping out and barking orders at anyone who is in my general vicinity.

In my mind nothing seems to be going right and no one is moving fast enough for me! Meanwhile Coach is telling me to chill and the children are afraid to make eye contact.

We were laughing about it this morning...I said something to the fact that when I get like that, I would like to be OUTSIDE my own body and watch to see what I look like to other people. I bet it is not pretty. But it only lasts a few minutes and then I am normal again. Well, normal for me.

I almost had a heart attack when I could not get the Chocolate fountain to flowwwwww properly....Coach to the rescue and chocolaty goodness for all.....

This is my silly friend Stacy. I just love her, she and I do nothing but laugh together.
A was leaning in for a picture w/ her and she brought up this little tidbit that she recently learned from a good friend of hers that is photographed a lot at high society functions.
What the friend of hers said to do for a good picture w/ no double chin is to do this.
Put your chin out forward (like a turtle) and place you tongue on the roof of your mouth just behind your upper teeth.
Well, this scenario brought out lots of laughs all night long....
Me: trying to do the turtle neck.

My other most favorite friend in the world Dawn. She was a birthday girl at our party so she got to use my precious Birthday girl wine glass.
Coach and I were talking about how much fun the party was this morning and he said that Dawn and I both laugh alike. or did he say a lot?
could be both.
Raise your hand if you have ever cradled a bottle of vodka and tried to do the turtle neck at the same time...

Ohhhh the end of the night.....I did not get to bed til 1:30...that is late for this gal.

  4. It sounds as if you had a perfect party, even if the preparatory time got to be a little tense.

  5. I had 2 kids show up. One I knew was coming. No biggie really. They kept quiet in the playroom w/ the canines. :)

  6. I am cracking up at the turtle neck pictures! My friend was once told to make your upper arms look thinner in a picture to hold them out from your body a bit. You can just imagine after a few glasses of wine how just a bit turns into looking like a line backer. Good times, good times.

  7. Your party looks like SO much fun : ). You are pretty! Wether you do the turtle neck or not! I am glad you had such a great time! I think we all have those psychodelic moments. You know what I have been doing in order to avoid them? Just not worrying. I trick myself into thinking people are getting there one hour after they are supposed to arrive. Then I feel like I have all the time in the world : ). Last week when David and Tina came over the house was insanely toy filled and messy still but they didn't even notice : ). They said it was happy. If I would have been doing my typical FREAK out thing it would have been anything but happy!

  9. Yay for fun friends, food and turtle faces! Sounds like a great party. Your food display made my mouth water. Have any left overs you'd like to ship off to Seattle???

I remember my mom used to get that way before big gatherings at our house too. I can totally relate to your daughters not wanting to make eye contact! And my Dad would try and help by doing something totally unrelated to party preparation like cleaning the garage and my mom would get soooo mad! We'd all end up screaming at each other right before the doorbell would ring. Fun times.

  10. Love the last picture the best, Suz.... You and Coach look tired --yet happy and proud to have sponsored such a great party. You do have special friends. That is so neat!!!! I have 3 childhood friends that I get with once a year to just get away and have fun together... It's special...

I guess we all should go outside of our bodies at times when things are tense.. We would certainly see ourselves differently, wouldn't we???? ha
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  12. I think we all do the Sybil thing when we're having a party, so don't be so hard on yourself. But, just for fun, you should have Coach hide a video camera somewhere next time! ;-)

  13. You have all the fun! Those chocolate fountains are tricky and can clog...but the champagne fountains flow a tad smoother...not that I'd know.

    How many kids showed up?

  14. before a party or gathering, i am calm and sedate and my plans run like clockwork. the house is clean and tidy and all food is lovingly prepared and presented in true martha style. husband is helpful and calming and i am glamorous and basking in the anticipation of the coming event and my soon to arrive guests.
    ?????!!!!*******$#@*@**

the best hint of this holidy season?

  16. I think ALL us women turn into Sybil right before a big event, don't we? I do, anyway... (And I laughed about the children avoiding eye contact.... mine do the same thing. It's like "Uh oh... mom has done temporarily psycho. Everyone TAKE COVER!")

The house/food/decor looked PERFECT and I know you guys had a GREAT time!

I loved the turtle neck thing... and it explains why all those society mavens always have that "stretched and irritated" look about them in photographs. NOW WE KNOW! :-)

  21. I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one that goes a little nuts before company comes or hosting a party. My kids and husband would have some stories to tell you I'm sure!

It does look and sound like a good time was had by all, including the hostess! I love the last picture of you and your husband...you both look happy!

I just happened upon your blog today and your happy animal pix made me smile. I have a wonderful golden retriever and a couple cats - Lincoln St. Penny, Sharkbait (Sharkey for short), and Gentle John (Johnny). Your dogs look awesome and I'm sure they protect your whole family. Thanks for allowing me to enjoy your blog. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. CindiSu
