Hey, It's Friday...again.

This week has just flown by for me....suppose I was a busy bee; time flies when you are busy.
Last weekend we had so much fun with our friends from the East Coast....they brought their 2 boxers too, so it was just a boxer love fest.

Here is a picture of the four of them...they are trying to see my neighbor behind our property who was out watering his garden.
Some watch dogs they are...trying to enforce the water restrictions we still have going on.

Meet Zack above and Sparky below. Zack is the Ol' man boxer...he is the reason we fell in love with the breed in the first place. He is an 85lb loving lap dog. Such an absolute sweetheart.

Sparky is the new addition to their family. He was rescued from a bad environment by a boxer rescue group. Our friends just got him a few months ago. SO cute. SO immature. SO funny. He has a really bad battle wound, showing just how bad his old life was. He and his sister were tied up in a family's back yard. They were not given much food or attention. Sparky got himself tied up in his lead/rope and must have been like this for a few days. See the pic below of his "permanent belt"
By the time they left for home on Sunday afternoon our Ozzie and their Sparky were shadowing each other...I could only imagine their conversations about how good they both have it now in their NEW improved homes since they were both rescued.
Cocoa asked me this morning WHO was coming to visit this weekend...Sadly I had to disappoint her with the fact that it was only us humans to entertain her....she is pouting and refuses to come in the house now. She is laying by my bird feeder...making the birds angry now.

I would encourage you or anyone you know to adopt a rescued dog/cat from a group or humane society...they are just wonderful pets.
Ok, most of them are wonderful...I won't bring up our cats today. Yes, they were all 3 rescued too.
My PSA for the day!

Coach and I stayed up late last night watching a movie after we came home from the softball field . This is almost unheard of on a weekday school night. We did not start the movie until after 10:40....trying to get over a bad loss.
(ONLY ONE MORE GAME OF THE High School SEASON)
It was a new movie starring Liam Neeson. Very action packed...not typically my type of movie, but I watched it out of love. :) Cause that is what we do, right?
Through most of the movie though, I was thinking: Gosh, when he made this movie, his wife (Natasha Richardson) was still alive. His family was perfect and intact.
Life is so temporary, isn't it?

Have a wonderful weekend! I hope it is full of wet kisses, happy people and FUN!

  2. Those are the sweetest doggies I've ever seen. Hope you have a great weekend. Did you get all your mulch put out yet?

  3. Awesome pictures! Now I know if we come to Florida, I can bring Roscoe, right? It makes me so mad to see what people do to dogs. I look at Roscoe (and Tank) every day and think of what their lives use to be like. They are both so loyal and loving. How could someone be mean to them and abandon them? I just don't get it.

  4. I am so glad that Sparky and Ozzie have new, loving families! People that mistreat animals or children or old people really piss me off!!

  5. oh yeah... our life here on earth is temporary... and that is why we sit on the couch, next to our hubby and watch something they want to watch... even though we;d rather be in dreamland. (okay, maybe not you... you have weird dreams!)

  7. Rescues on every scale are beautiful. And the people who do the rescuing? Even more beautiful.

  9. Love the boxers. So sweet. That looks like a lovely "outdoor room" you have there.

Ohhh, Liam Neeson; I have thought of him and their boys so much. Wasn't it in the movie, "Love, Actually," that he played a widower with a young child, and went through the entire funeral scene, etc.? I kept thinking of that after his wife passed. So sad...
Okay, what a "debbie downer" I am. On to lighter notes:
Cat rescue vs. dog rescue: I wonder if cats just don't have the quality of GRATITUDE the way dogs have it. I don't get that vibe very much around here. Liger is the sweetest creature on earth, so loving, but I think they don't make the same connection with humans that dogs do (there, I knew I'd end up writing that: dog doo). Anyway, maybe that's why they don't act thankful towards us, when we rescue them; they seem much more, "SO? What have you done for me today?," don't they?

    If you still need a laugh after thinking of Liam Neeson, go to this video that Laurie K. posted. I am still weak from laughing until I cried! http://www.elwp.com/Joe%20Cocker.html {{{Hugs}}}

  10. JJ is a rescue dog...Well actually he ran away and he found us. We located the owner, but JJ kept escaping and coming to see us...so the owner said he was a juvenile delinquent and we could keep him. I think he actually bit his old owner, a trait we never see in him.

  11. Love the PSA and the pictures! Some of the best family pets come from animal shelters.

  12. I am with you on the week flying by! Glad and the dogs had a great time with the visitors!

I will work on my yelling at ball games thing! I am just so intense when it comes to any sports, my sons do not even have to be involved! When you have that competiveness running through your blood it is hard to not react!

    Have a great weekend!!

  13. All of our pets have been rescued, except the new puppy we are getting in May. I have actually felt alot of guilt over that - but a bird dog must be trained right from the beginning if he will be a good hunting dog and must be fearless of the loud gun noises. I know we made a good choice, but also know there are so many out there looking for good homes... next time - my son has been begging for a boxer for years, so who knows... one day...

  14. happy weekend to you too!!

i haven't seen that movie, but i feel so bad for him, it is interesting and sad how movies capture a person at a certain time of their life.I can imagine feeling like you wish you could go back in time and warn him in some way

  15. My kitty came from the pound. She was abandoned too soon (5 weeks), and thinks our dog is her mother;)

I have always thought that people who abuse animals should suffer the same consequences. An eye for an eye, or, a belt for a belt?

  16. The picture of the "watchdogs" is adorable! I can imagine what they are saying to each other with their little nubby tails wagging. "I'll get him.. no, I'll get him...

  17. I love puppies, so do my kids, only they would probably yank an ear or a tail too many times for the poor puppy to defend itself, so for now we have to wait, I will enjoy your though!! thanks

  18. My Abbie was found out on the highway in a storm, almost starved to death. She is the sweetest dog I have ever had. It's like they know we're their saviors so to speak and they love us that much more for it.

  19. I so want to rescue a dog (or four)... As soon as we're in our country house life will change, that's for sure!

Just can't have any males though cuz my boy is one dominant SOB... and my girl needs to be the boss of the bitches, too. Sigh. Fussy akitas!

Yes life is fleeting and I intend to enjoy every minute of it!

  20. Those dogs are so adorable. For one very brief moment I thought you had rescued 2 more. And I thought you might be going insane in the membrane...

We adopted two cats. I hate them both. They hiss at me. A lot. Every single day. And they make the house filthy.

I hope your weekend is wonderful. It is 80 degrees here and I am pretending it is Florida. : )

  21. You started at 10:40 on a school night? I would have been dead today.

  22. Ruby is a rescue dog, and EVERY DAY she looks at Ron and I like "Thank you for feeding me. Thank you for not beating me. You guys are the BEST!" She is truly SO sweet, and SO appreciative!

And you're right about Liam. His life (and his boys lives) have been permanently and irrevocably) turned upside down. life is fragile indeed.

I miss having time to read your blog every day! :(

  23. You are the best friend!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My pups were so happy to have all that free land to roam, and ply with with your kids.
We had the best 23 1/2 hours with you. I promise the next time you will have longer with my furry kids (and us)!
    Hugs and kisses. Kel

  26. My friend has a 100 lb boxer who thinks he is a lap dog. I love him.

My family are natives of Texas, but I spent my childhood in D.C. But I moved to Texas as an adult. I love it there.

China *is* a lot to take! I don't think I could do it if it weren't for my assignment (Peace Corps).
