That is a super awesome title isn't it? Thanks. It hurt my brain to come up with that baby.
I am sure at least two of you have not been able to get a good nights rest prior to this little nugget of information from me: While on our 13 day vacation, the girls and I visited 4 Target stores. Yep. Still on our quest to visit all the Target stores on this little planet of ours. And just for Sh*ts and Giggles, the day after we were home, we visited our local Target. You know, just to make sure it was still there and all. Good news, it survived our hiatus. phew.

So, anyhoo....when we visited my Mom in Georgia, she had just moved into a new place. I took the liberty to help unpack some things for her and get my paws into some organizing too. You know how I live for that stuff right? Mom had a great idea for her dining room wall and together we did this little lettering project:
(Mom, now that I look at it again, I think the picture should be just a tad to the right…about an inch)
Is it cute or what???? And yes, the letters are not supposed to be perfectly straight. She bought it at Stein Mart, but I have seen them all over since then. It was pretty easy, the most agonizing hardest part was figuring out where to put it exactly on the wall.
And of course, while we were together, there was much laughter and joy around her cute as heck table too.
I am thinking of putting one on my kitchen wall too. I could draw from my Father’s wisdom from my childhood. His famous line at the dinner table:
"Eat it OR wear it!"
On second thought, maybe that would not be so welcoming to our guests.
Or maybe:
"NO singing at the table!"
Still not sure why singing was such a problem for him either. Fun Sucker.
I did see this one that I really liked:
"Approach love and cooking with reckless abandon."
Reckless abandon does sound rather messy though…not such a fan of messes. The love part is A+ for sure!
What would you put on your wall to sum up your family meals??
Suz, I'm going to have to take a picture of the awesome poster I have in my kitchen. It's all different sayings in Italian. I LOVE IT!!!
ReplyDeleteMy friend has one about family and a family tree--it really does look cute.
ReplyDeleteI like "Eat it or Wear it"--we used to say that one a lot!
I had a saying on my wall in CA, and I found a few just like it but a different font that I might get:
ReplyDeleteAs for me and my house we will serve the Lord. Joshua 24:15
My father used to say 'all uncooked joints off the table' meaning your elbows, we used to think this was so funny.
ReplyDeleteI have long admired those letter/quote things. Your mom's looks great. I used to get in trouble for humming at the table!
ReplyDeleteStop mxiting and finish your food!
ReplyDeletei love love love these vinyl letter things. i have seen tham and wanted to stick up a few... but i can never decided where... or which phrase i like the best. decisions! i sure love that you & the girls made some great new memories with your mom around her table :)
ReplyDeleteOh you do not want to know what goes on at the table with three boys!!!
ReplyDeleteNo passing gas, burping, showing your food or goofing off at the table!
Now that would be pleasant hanging on the wall.
Something I say way more than I ever would've thought is "No feet where we eat!"
ReplyDelete"Give us this day our daily bread"
ReplyDeleteis on my wall.
I stenciled it on; nice and crooked. :<
a splashguard?
ReplyDelete;-)
How wonderful that you had this time with your mom and did these things for her. I love these wall sayings and have thought about doing one myself but can't decide on what. I have a sign that hangs just before you go into the kitchen that says "Welcome to the Zoo"...which is a good indicator of what meal time can be like at our house. I have one clean eater and one very messy eater and both are very talkative. I am sure I could come up with all kinds of sign slogans to hang in my kitchen!
ReplyDeleteA day without pasta is like a day without sunshine!
ReplyDeleteBTW - there is a Target in Washington DC that you need to visit. It is multi-level with a special-sized escalator for your cart to ride on!
I guess "hurry up so I can do the dishes" wouldn't be good either, huh?! LOL
ReplyDeleteLOL...mine would have to say "I hope you brought take-out..."...
ReplyDeleteMy parents still say this little prayer before each meal: God is great, God is good ...
ReplyDeleteSo I would put that on their dining room wall.
My Mom's would say, "Complimentary socks provided under the table for all your brussel sprout disposal needs."
ReplyDeleteMine would say, "All uneaten mashed potato sculptures will be sold to cover the cost of your meal."
I loved the title and the post -- adore the way you write (and appreciate the honest comments).
ReplyDeleteThis post reminded me of the in depth magnet collection we have on our frig -- Next to the one that says I love eggplant is
Be nice or Leave... Thank you.
:)
Thanks for making me smile, Sue
Mine now would probably be: "My favorite time of the day"! We are empty nesters. I miss the family dinners each night. When the kids were little it was "You've got to at least taste it" Somethimes this did not turn out so good, I remember a saurkraut incident.
ReplyDeleteBTW Love you mom's wall
After all of the sweet little prayers listed above, my mother would be upset with this one. But this is what I remember coming out of her mouth:
ReplyDelete"Get your elbows off the table; This is not a horse's stable."
Sorry, Mom!!!!! I should have remembered a sweet one, shouldn't I????? ha ha
Hugs Suz,
Betsy
First off, I have to tell you how much fun I had catching up on all your old posts I missed. I laughed and had a grand time with them. I found that if I hold a blog on my computer I can read it when I get home. No movies or comments, but still I get to catch up. Your title reminded me of the Amy Grant song If These Old Walls Could Speak (love that song). At this stage in our lives our dining room plaque would probably read: I sure miss having the kids at the table.
ReplyDeleteSad huh? At my home growing up we heard several of these gems: Children should be seen and not heard. Cassie, you are like a bull in a china shop!(after I knocked the table leg and spilt everyones drinks) And lastly, we always had to ask: May I please be excused?
I found out later ours was not a typical 1950's household---just a typical German one. Patrick's family always had fun at the table and were not near as formal as we were.
Blessings, Cassie
you KNOW you just totally opened yourself up here for an answer from me, dont you? ok, i will be nice. i know your girls read this.
ReplyDeletemine says... "if mama aint happy, aint nobody happy". hahaha aint that the truth, though? actually, i collect frig magnets and that's on one of them. in my dining room i have an angel that sits on the table and says "bless this meal, this house, this family" i cant have anything on the wall in here cuz it's all windows.
you are so cute, suz....
i am thankful to follow your posts, you always put a smile on my face.
c
Mine would be... Eat fast before "the" dog gets it :)
ReplyDeleteWell, I could use my husband's diet advice: "If it tastes good, spit it out." But I'm not sure how dinner guests would feel about that. I might be insulted if no one spit anything out. Or horrified if anyone actually did spit something out. So, no. Bad choice.
ReplyDeleteEat, drink and be merry for tomorrow we diet.
ReplyDeletelMnop
Um... thank you pizza boy? LOL
ReplyDeleteps: very beautiful wall you guys made there, it's original and inspiring!
ReplyDelete"Make it your damn self."
ReplyDeleteI love those. And I want some. My wall words would say. "You have got to be kidding. You don't know where the trash bags are? Get yourself together Gary!" Yep. That's exactly how sweet and nice I am. He would need to look at that every day because he seriously NEVER puts in a new trash bag. What is the problem? And he acts like he is a super hero for even taking out the trash. I need to be nicer like you. Please come over for an intense training camp. There are 2 targets close to me! : ) Hurry! Hurry! Hurry!
ReplyDeleteLove the letters! I agree...just a titch to the right!
ReplyDeleteLately our letters would read
Who is getting the TV trays? (bad bad must change)
The cook is on strike!
